Duncan Cover Coat Opaque Underglazes

Cover Coat Opaque Underglaze colors are applied directly to greenware, soft fired bisque or bisque. Cover Coats fire to an opaque, porous matte finish. A glaze finish is used to seal the porous surface, intensify and show the true underglaze colors.


Tips and Techniques

  • Painting with Cover Coat Opaque underglaze is similar to painting with acrylic paints and is a great fired alternative for a tole and decorative painter. Colors are opaque and generally one color covers the one beneath it.
  • Cover Coat without clear glaze over them, fire to an opaque, porous, velvet with matte finish.
  • Nontoxic clear glazes seal Cover Coat porous surface, making utility pieces food safe, and allows the true underglaze colors to show through.
  • Cover Coat airbrushes beautifully.
  • All colors can be mixed, blended, and thinned with water and floated.
  • Cover Coat may be tinted with E Z Strokes Translucent Underglazes or other Cover Coat colors to create unique custom colors.
  • Cover Coat dries quickly and can easily be painted over without lifting the colors underneath.
  • To sgraffito, gently scratch through the applied color using the TL 407 sgraffito duster to reveal the color or the clay body beneath it.
